Pillar Playbook · Signals
She's Friendly. Not Flirting.
Most guys get this wrong. Three tests that tell you in under a minute.

Friendly is how she treats everyone. Flirting is focused on you. One sign means nothing, so look for a cluster: she holds eye contact and smiles, she leans in or finds small reasons to touch your arm, and she pulls you back into the conversation when you start to leave.
She laughed at your joke. She touched your arm. She replied with a smiley. Does she like you, or is she just a nice person? Most guys guess wrong in both directions: they miss real interest, or they make a move on someone who was only being polite.
The key: friendly is how she treats everyone. Flirting is focused on you. And one sign means nothing. You are looking for a cluster.
Test 1: The eyes test
Hold, smile, re-glance. That is the pattern.
- Flirting: she holds eye contact a beat longer than normal, smiles while she does it, and looks back at you again within a minute, sometimes right after you look away.
- Friendly: a quick, even glance, the same one she gives the waiter and her friends.
One glance is noise. A hold, a smile and a second glance in the same minute is a signal.
Test 2: The body test
Lean-in, touch, mirror. Watch what her body does around you compared with everyone else.
- Flirting: she leans toward you, finds small reasons to touch your arm, mirrors your posture, turns her feet and shoulders toward you, plays with her hair while you talk.
- Friendly: open and relaxed, but no different with you than with the group. Some people are touchy with everyone, which is exactly why you compare.

Test 3: The pull-back test
This is the one that settles it. Don't chase; test. In the middle of a good conversation, say "anyway, it was good talking to you" and turn slightly away.
- She re-engages (a new question, a "wait, you never told me...", a reason to keep talking): green light.
- An easy "bye!": she was being friendly. No harm done, and you walk away with your dignity.
Signs a girl likes you over text
You: how was your weekend?
Her: good! you?
You: went trekking, it was amazing
Her: nice 🙂
Short, polite, never asks anything new. Pleasant, not invested.
You: how was your weekend?
Her: boring compared to yours I bet. where did you go?? send pics
Her: also you still owe me that playlist
Asks questions back, double texts you, remembers a detail. That is interest.
Signs a girl likes you but is hiding it
Some girls are shy, or careful because they don't want to look too interested. The signs are smaller but still there:
- She remembers small details you mentioned once.
- She finds reasons to be near you or in the same group, but goes quiet when it's just you two.
- She checks your stories quickly, or replies to them, even if her texts are short.
- She teases you more than she teases other people.
- Her friends act like they know something you don't.
Shy interest still passes the pull-back test: when you start to leave, she finds a reason for you to stay.
What to do once you know
If the cluster is there, act on it while it's warm. Hold her gaze a second longer, tease her a little, or simply ask her to get coffee. If the signals were friendly, take it well and move on. Being able to walk away cleanly is attractive in itself. If she says yes, here is how to text her without killing it.
The short version
- Friendly is for everyone. Flirting is focused on you.
- Never trust one sign; look for three.
- Eyes: hold, smile, re-glance.
- Body: lean-in, touch, mirror.
- Pull back and see if she pulls you in.
Frequently asked questions
She laughs at all my jokes. Does she like me?
Maybe. Laughing alone is politeness. Check for a cluster: is she also holding eye contact, leaning in and keeping the conversation going?
How do you know if a girl is flirting over text?
She asks you questions back, replies with energy close to yours, teases you, uses your name and starts conversations sometimes. Short replies and never asking anything back usually means friendly.
Can a girl be touchy and just friendly?
Yes. Some people are touchy with everyone. That is why you compare: is she like this with you, or with every person in the room?
What should I do if I think she is flirting?
Test it gently. Hold eye contact a second longer, give her a playful tease, or ask her to get coffee. Her response tells you more than any sign.
What are the signs a girl likes you but is hiding it?
She remembers small details, stays near you in groups but goes quiet one to one, watches or replies to your stories, and teases you more than others. When you start to leave, she finds a reason for you to stay.
