"Haha Nice" Kills Chats.
Dry replies end good chats. What to send in the eight situations guys get stuck on, with real examples.
A good reply does three things: it reacts to what she actually said, adds a little of you, and gives her something easy to answer. Swap "haha nice" and "hmm" for a specific reaction plus one light question, match her length, and never send three messages when one will do.
She sends a message. You stare at it for ten minutes, type, delete, type again, and finally send "haha nice". The chat dies. Sound familiar?
A good reply only needs three things: react to what she actually said, add a little of you, and give her something easy to answer. Here is what that looks like in the eight situations guys get stuck on most.
1. What to reply when a girl says hi
Don't send "hi" back on its own; it hands the work back to her. Say hi and add something.
- "hey! did you survive the Monday or is it still winning?"
- "hi 👋 ok I have to know, did you ever finish that series?"
- "hey, perfect timing, I need a food recommendation"
2. When she asks "how are you?"
"Good, you?" is a dead end. Give a real answer in one line and throw it back with a twist.
- "surviving on chai and deadlines. how's your week going?"
- "good! just burnt my first attempt at pasta. you cook?"
- "honestly? tired, but the good kind. what's keeping you busy?"
3. What to reply to a girl's Instagram story
Pick the one specific detail and ask about it. A fire emoji tells her nothing; a question gives her a reason to answer.
You: 🔥🔥
She'll heart it. That's the end.
You: ok that café looks unreal. is the food as good as the lighting?
Her: better honestly! the cheesecake 😭
Specific detail, easy question.
- "that dog deserves its own account. what's its name?"
- "wait, is that the place near the station? I keep meaning to try it"
4. When she's giving dry replies
"ok", "hmm", "nice". Try once with something more interesting. If it stays dry, give it space: she may be busy, or not that into the chat, and pushing harder never helps.
- "ok random question: mountains or beaches, and you can only pick one forever"
- "you seem busy today, talk later?" (then actually wait)
- "ok I'll stop being boring. tell me one good thing from your day"

5. When she says she's bored
This is an invitation. Don't waste it on "same".
- "bored enough to rate my terrible playlist?"
- "perfect, I need someone to settle a debate: is pineapple on pizza a crime"
- "bored is dangerous. what's the most random thing you've done when bored?"
6. When she replies late
Don't comment on the gap ("finally!" or "you took 5 hours"). Reply like normal, at a normal pace. Matching her rhythm is far more attractive than waiting by your phone. See also why double texting kills it.
- "no worries! ok so, did you end up trying that café?"
7. When she sends a photo of herself
Compliment something she chose, not just her face: the outfit, the place, the vibe. Specific beats "beautiful".
- "that jacket is a whole personality. where's this?"
- "ok the lighting in this is unfair, who took it?"
8. When she ghosted and came back
No sulking, no lecture. Keep it light and warm; if she's back, she wants to talk.
- "look who's back 😄 how have you been?"
- "hey stranger! what kept you busy?"
Replies that kill a chat
- "haha nice", "hmm", "ok": nothing to answer.
- Three messages in a row: it reads as pressure.
- A paragraph to her one line: match her length.
- Only compliments on her looks: she gets those all day.
Not sure if she's actually interested? Run the three tests for flirting vs friendly.
The short version
- React to what she said.
- Add a little of you.
- Give her an easy question.
- Match her length and pace.
- One message at a time.
Frequently asked questions
What to reply when a girl says hi?
Don't send "hi" back alone. Say hi and add something specific: a callback to how you met, or a light question about her day or her latest story.
What to reply to a girl's Instagram story?
React to the one detail that stands out and ask a small question about it. "that view is unfair, where is this?" works better than a fire emoji.
What to reply when a girl gives dry replies?
Try once with a more interesting question. If the answers stay one word, give it space. Dry replies often mean she is busy or not interested, and chasing makes it worse.
How long should I wait to reply to a girl?
There is no magic number. Reply when you see it and have something to say, and roughly match her pace so you are not always the one waiting.
